0903: The Galapagos and Ecuador's Highlands
Activity: Hiking
Status: OPEN

Experience up close the unique species of birds, reptiles, mammals and fish found nowhere else in the world! Snorkel mask-to-whiskers with playful sea-lion pups. Gaze in awe at the giant land tortoises --galapagos -- as they lumber along. Step over lounging sea-lions, darting lizards and scuttling crabs. Observe penguins, flamingoes and several species of boobies flying, nesting and fishing. Cruise for 8 days among the islands on the newly-commissioned 16 passenger yacht Yolita II. After 2 days in Quito, the cultural and artistic heart of Ecuador, we'll head south into the highlands of the Andes, past Cotopaxi volcano, to the Quilotoa loop with its spectacular crater lake, indigenous craft/agricultural markets and more isolated rural life. Several days of moderate hiking in a wondrous setting await us. Delightful accommodations and outstanding food throughout the trip. Cost of $4995 covers all but a few meals in Quito. Air approx. $900 additional.
