We will stay at the Agriturismo (restored working farm) La Fonte outside Pienza. Our accommodations are double occupancy rooms in several mini-apartments with a central dining room. The veranda and pool overlook the landscape to the west, a spectacular setting for "apres ride". We will explore the rolling Tuscan landscape of olive groves, vineyards and hill towns (Montalcino, San Quirico, Montepulciano), see the baths at Bagno Vignoni, the monastery at Monte Oliveto, and spend an off-bike day in Siena. We'll sample local food and wine in restaurants and prepare some ourselves. We may visit a working farm and/or vineyard. Rides vary 20-35 mi/day and include moderate to strenuous hills (nosag). We'll prepare breakfasts and 3-4 dinners communally, enjoy picnic lunches en route, and take four dinners off site. Land cost includes 7 nights' lodging, meals, van & bike rentals, and van transfers to/from Rome airport and Chiusi train station. $1700 plus airfare: $950-1,100.
