Mount Madison (5366') - Hike to the summit of one of the few 5000 footers in the White Mountains via the Valley Way trail and the Osgood trail (AT). Round trip distance is 8.4 miles with elevation gain of 4100'. Valley Way leads to Madison Hut (closed in winter) and the Osgood Trail leads the final .4 mile to the summit of Mount Madison. This trip offers a protected hike to treeline and then an exposed final leg on the Osgood Trail to the summit. Participants should be comfortable with strenuous winter hiking over long distances and times. Full gear required included snowshoes with built in crampons in addition to crampons and winter boots that are, of course, crampon compatible. All participants must preregister with the trip leaders. This should be a great trip with plenty of challenge, great views (conditions permitting) and a chance to experience the Whites in winter. Please join us.
