Current Wilderness First Aid certification is a prerequisite for this course. Advanced Wilderness First Aid (AWFA) builds on the skills taught in WFA, and provides more in-depth information on topics already covered including medical and environmental emergencies, and presents new skills like improvising litters and litter-carrying techniques. More hands-on practice with greater emphasis on leadership is a key element. Practical simulations and scenarios provide practice in backcountry leadership and rescue skills.
