5.5 mi. Urban stroll. Part I was completed in 3/08 and comprised mostly downtown Annapolis, Eastport, and lots of the Naval Academy. Part II consists of 58 sites including many surprises. We will traverse the St. John's College campus, explore parts of the Naval Academy missed by most tourists, conquer the new span over the Severn River - twice, have some refreshments, discover a secret access to West Annapolis, and examine the sublime beauty of the Tawes Gardens. Meet at 9 a.m. at the Visitors Center on West Street near Church Circle, Annapolis. [From Rtes 50/301, take the MD Rte 70 "Rowe" Blvd" exit and follow the Vis. Cntr signs to the parking garage behind the Center off NW & Calvert Sts.] Vis. Cntr contains facilities for your relief plus a relief map for your facilitation. Step off at 9:15 a.m. Hike is inspired by the brochure: "Pause to Remember -- A self-guided walking tour of the memorials of Annapolis." Surfaces are paved orgrass. Boots are not necessary. Canines stay home. Amount of water and sunscreen is weather dependent. Dress in layers. Bring snax to share. Naval Academy security requires a photo-I.D. (passport for aliens) and small backpacks or none at all. Detailed route directions, a memorial list, & a copy of the brochure will be provided. This is a hike not a tour. Rain or shine. "Show & Go." (No RSVPs). Post-hike lunch at Ramshead Tavern across West St. from the Vis. Cntr.
