6 mi. Out and back with some loops. Hike is described in Baltimore Trails by Bryan Mackay (The J.H.U. Press, 2002). He sez: The Little Gunpowder R. flows nondescriptly along the eastern edge of Balt. Co. The riverside scenery is beautiful and its sense of isolation and intimacy is special. The river changes from a Piedmont stream, sparkling and dancing thru gravel bars, to a brawling creek slamming over steep drops. The sound of water is always close at hand. And the route includes the historic mill with blacksmithing demos and acoustic music.
